What Is Meditation?

Meditation, which has existed for over 5,000 years, first gained public attention in the United States in 1959. By the late 1960s, various forms of meditation were being practiced by thousands of people across the globe.

Meditation For Sleeping Better

In initial studies, researchers found that  sleep reduces the metabolic rate by 12% over several hours, whereas meditation achieves a 16% reduction in just a few minutes. This indicates that meditation provides a deeper state of rest in a much shorter time compared to sleep. What’s even more fascinating is that the mind stays alert and aware during this rest, unlike the unconscious state of sleep or dreaming. This unique state is known as restful alertness, and with practice, it can be achieved quickly.

Meditation helps us form better sleep patterns which is so important as we consider this the body’s enriching feast.  Irregular sleep patterns and insomnia are corrected by meditating quickly.

Meditation For Tension, Anxiety and Stress - You no longer need to suffer!

Scientists around the globe have investigated the effects of meditation. Findings from these studies, published in numerous scientific journals and featured in countless newspapers and magazines, have played a key role in the growing interest in meditation over time. These studies suggest that meditation can lead to improved mental clarity, better health, and freedom from tension, anxiety, and stress.

Despite this, people often look outward for happiness when the true solution is found by turning inward, using meditation as a tool.

There are common misconceptions that meditation involves intense concentration, strict diets, special yogic postures, or even extraordinary feats like walking on burning coals or sleeping on a bed of nails. In reality, meditation is none of these things. It is a straightforward yet profound practice that allows you to move your attention from the surface to the inner depths of your mind. Meditation provides the strength and insight to make constructive changes in life and to develop a more holistic perspective.

Meditating Is So Relaxing & Enjoyable - Apart from deep relaxation, no two meditations are alike which keeps it interesting!

One of the most delightful aspects of meditation is the profound relaxation that the body and central nervous system experience. Meditation helps dissolve the stresses and tensions of daily life, reaching effortless relaxation in just 20-30 minutes twice a day. The deep relaxation attained during meditation allows the body to rest far more deeply than during sleep, as mentioned previously and significantly benefits the central nervous system and promoting overall health. When you see these profound benefits it encourages to to keep on and practices regularly to maintain maximum benefit.

A Journey Beyond The Conscious And Subconscious Mind To The Superconscious

Meditation techniques offer much more than simple relaxation. They go far beyond the conscious and subconscious mind, tapping into the deeper levels of the superconscious mind to access finer and more subtle energies.

The superconscious part of us is as yet beyond scientific measurement because it’s so subtle. This might be a new idea for you, but it can be directly experienced through meditation and spiritual practices.

This source of energy is infinite and pure, and it can be brought back to the patterned areas of the mind, allowing these finer energies to be integrated into the denser layers of the subconscious mind.

This is where true transformation begins. While relaxation can be achieved in many ways—most of them temporary—our meditation approach works on the three aspects of human existence: body, mind, and spirit, fostering harmony and self-integration.

When all parts of ourselves work together in harmony, the benefits are vast. This alignment, or as we prefer to call it “integration”,  leads to improved health, illness prevention, and resolution of mental, emotional, and even spiritual challenges.

Neutralizing Mood Swings With Meditative Techniques - No more ups and down!

The mental benefits of meditation include stabilizing mood swings, enhancing mental clarity, and improving memory. Constant worries fade away as we gather inner strength to tackle the challenges of daily life.

Experiencing the physical benefits of meditation is only the beginning. Meditation not only improves our health by attracting powerful healing energies but also provides a wealth of emotional and psychological benefits to improve our mental health.

Many of us have sought greater inner strength throughout our lives, though it is often a challenging pursuit but through meditation, this strength naturally arises from the deeper layers of the mind.

Strength is a quality that lies within, accessed each time we delve into ourselves through meditation that helps us move beyond mood swings that lead to unhappiness!

Want To Be More Positive? It can happens naturally!

Achieving this requires more than just using the conscious or subconscious mind—you must dive deeper and access the superconscious mind, where more subtle energies reside. As these finer energies are infused into the grosser levels of the mind—the conscious and subconscious—the mind becomes stronger, transforming into a more positive and powerful tool that supports us in all aspects of life.

These processes lead to self-fulfillment, which in turn nurtures greater self-confidence and self-esteem—qualities often missing from many people’s lives.

Meditation Increases Your Intuition, Awareness & Perception

Exploring the deeper levels of the mind has a significant purpose. These deeper layers contain qualities that we often only hear about or rarely experience—such as intuition and awareness. Typically beyond our reach, these attributes of the mind start to surface with regular meditation practice.

Intuition is a powerful quality that enhances our daily actions, offering us a new perspective on life. It provides us with greater vision, perception, and awareness, leading to a deeper understanding of various aspects of life.

Through these processes, one finds greater peace of mind. Living peacefully means being in complete harmony with ourselves and our environment, giving life new meaning. This brings a sense of enrichment and increases our enjoyment of life immensely.

This journey is known as Spiritual Unfoldment—the unfolding of our higher, true self. It is far more than just relaxation! It’s about being in touch with ourselves at a deeper level.

Our Divine Right Is To Be Happy! It is, truly!

It is our divine right to be happy! Our scriptures and teachings all convey this message—but they often fail to tell us how to achieve it, which is the real challenge!

Your life can be filled with happiness, overflowing with joy, and lead to a truly blissful existence. Why not? Who ever told you that you couldn’t have this?

All of this can be easily attained through meditation—a structured practice that involves turning inward to access higher consciousness and integrating that awareness into daily life. This consciousness is already within you; all you need is the key to unlock it. Meditation is that key, and with the guidance of a teacher, it’s time to open that door!

Your Friendly Expert Meditation Teacher

If you wanted to learn to play the piano, you would naturally seek out a piano teacher—it’s just common sense! Likewise, if you are seeking Spiritual Unfoldment, you need the guidance of a Spiritual Teacher. While learning meditation from a book is possible, it can be challenging, as books cannot answer your questions.

Progress is much faster when you work with a teacher—a living person who knows the path, understands its challenges, and can offer compassionate guidance to help you avoid stumbling or falling. Human beings need a human touch, and therefore, the system at FISU is centered around the guidance of a Spiritual Teacher.

These teachings were created by a Spiritual Master named Gururaj Ananda Yogi. You can read his life story on this website. After he transitioned from the physical realm, the organization has been led by Rajesh Ananda and Jasmini Ananda, who are Spiritual Teachers for FISU in the United Kingdom.

Each individual who joins our system is given personalized practices based on their unique vibration. This approach is a key factor in the success of our program. You can read more about it in the “Individually Prescribed Meditation” section, which explains this process in greater detail.

These teachers offer deep wisdom and are there to guide you along the path. However, they do not walk the path for you—you must do that yourself. They provide you with the tools and are there to offer guidance, as they have experienced the journey firsthand.

Their teachings are recorded and documented, providing a basis for deeper inquiry if you wish to learn more about the philosophy behind our approach. Of course, you may choose to meditate solely for the benefits of relaxation, and that’s perfectly fine! However, most people soon come to realize that meditation is far more than just a relaxation technique. See our Philosophy area.

The FISU Meditation Philosophy

The philosophy and teachings offered by FISU serve as a support system for those who seek truth and have an inquisitive mind. These teachings can enrich your life, allowing you to live them to enhance and deepen your personal growth and well-being.  See our Philosophy area.
