In an exciting exploration of consciousness, new research highlights how meditative states like FiSU (Focused Inner Stillness and Unity) meditation can foster a profound sense of timeless awareness. This study, led by Assistant Professor Akiko Frischhut of Sophia University, delves deep into the “pure consciousness experiences” often reported by practitioners, offering a fresh perspective on the nature of time and self-awareness.
FISU – FOUNDATION FOR INTERNATIONAL SPIRITUAL UNFOLDMENT
Strangely, FISU, an acronym for our longer name, also represents Focused, Inner, Stillness and Unity.
FiSU Meditation is designed to help individuals focus inwardly, creating a space of stillness and unity. These states are frequently described as devoid of traditional temporal markers like change or succession. Yet, they retain a sense of duration, captured in what Dr. Frischhut describes as the “Extended Now Interpretation.” This concept suggests that meditators experience an expanded present moment—alert and deeply aware, yet free from the usual perception of time’s passage.
THE POWER OF STILLNESS
Stillness itself is powerful. As noted by experts, “Being still is like replenishing the stores. It allows us time and space.” It allows us to self-reflect and truly hear our thoughts, fostering greater clarity and self-awareness. Moreover, stillness soothes the nervous system, providing an “anti-stress fix” that allows us to find balance and relief without becoming numb to our experiences.
The study bridges ancient spiritual practices and modern philosophical inquiry, suggesting that these timeless experiences in meditation can profoundly enhance well-being, reduce stress, and deepen self-awareness. FiSU meditation emerges as a transformative practice for connecting to an expanded sense of self and experiencing life beyond the boundaries of time.
By combining scientific rigor with meditative insights, this research sheds light on the intricate interplay between consciousness and temporal perception, opening doors for further exploration in neuroscience and spirituality.
